Fan Recruiting

Written by jen under Mudbugs Hockey

It seems that Coach Muscutt is doing some heavy recruiting.

Well, here north of the Louisiana border I have been doing some recruiting of my own. Not recruiting players, of course. I’m talking about recruiting fans.

Since I started watching the Mudbugs, people tell me I’m a woman possessed. Once I hook into something I go for it and finding new people to tell about the Mudbugs has become something of a personal mission. Not a day goes by that something hockey related doesn’t come from my mouth. And most of the time I’m showing pics of the games around to go with all the blabbing.

Maybe it’s because I have driven all my friends to the point of madness, or because my love for this team is so extremely noticeable, that as of last week 15 of them said they will definitely be there. Then add in the 3 more that I recruited, (or harrased, either way it worked) today, that all ads up to a firm “we’ll be there” from at least 18 of my friends joining me for opening night. At this rate, I’m guessing Arkansas will be very well represented come October.

Without a hockey team to call our own, myself and two friends have adopted the Mudbugs. Now, the 18 I have commited doesn’t count the people that my other two friends have recruited. At this rate, who knows how many will be there cheering with us.
A co-worker of mine is involved in a peer program and is even considering treating them to a game. I’ve even got a plan for dropping hints during our football parties.

So, good luck Coach in bringing killer talent into and back. You are doing an amazing job so far.
As for me, I’ll be back out there soon doing a little “recruiting” of my own.

How ’bout that?

Written by Kevin Jordan under Mudbugs Hockey

Well first of I must comment on another CHL boss moving on up, Brad ” Treliving- ring- ring -ring- ring, oops stupid cell phones uhhmmm hello, what’s that? yippee I got the Job with the NHL Phoenix Coyotes, no more CHL, hot Dahhhm !!!!” (insert “The Jefferson’s” tune Here)

Well that’s just great, now who are going to send all our letters to? I know Paris Hilton, oh! wait can she actually read? or do her tongue dragging cabana boys do that for her too? Wait! I have a suggestion.

Why don’t we get two super sized PMS women to run the show? I can hear it now ” what the bleep do you mean the bleepin’ Ref’s are blind? How many bleepin’ times have I… Oh I’m so sorry may I help you with your complaint? You want what? who the bleepin’ do you think you are?

Ok! most of you get the idea, after anyone goes through that bit of nail gun to the privates, they will have either forgotten the question altogether, or turned and said “eeuuuoo-k!” and run faster than they ever thought they could away from this situation altogether, because I don’t know about you but I think if had to choose between listening to that and a sharp stick in the eye, I say get out the knife and start sharpening. Just a thought!

On a more seriuos note, I wonder how many secrets Steve Chernowak – I’ll be your new GM Mr. Madden – has up his sleeve?

The signing of Joe Ori and Dale Lupul were huge merely because it’s not even August and we already have an All – Star goalie, an All – Star Defenseman , a 30 goal scorer and a very crafty setup guy. I am speaking of John DeCaro, Dale Lupul, Brett Smith and Joe Ori.

A fine start but they still have a ways to go. who will sign next? I am going to go out on a limb here by saying that ” Chris Brassard, Daniel Pegoraro and Karlis Zirnis will be signed by the end of August.

I am hoping for all the guys to comeback (well except for Danny and Forbey of course). I am also hoping and I rag on this every off season is the fact that we need to sign not just bigger, but tougher and meaner players.

Like the kind of players that are married to the ladies I spoke of earlier, so they will come to the games in “oh such a really friendly mood” a take it all out on the opposition.

Yeah old time hockey, players playing with big chips on their shoulders, tougher than nails and players that can take the will right out of the opposition thus making us not only the hardest working team in the CHL, but the toughest to play against also. a very nice combination. Throw some talented players in to the mix, and what we have is a very entertaining team to watch.

Tip! next time your at the games look in the goaltenders crease for the two red lines near the top of the circle which are perfectly in line with the each goal post. They are there to help the goalie keep his bearings with the net and to help him play the angles better..

Moving on

Written by Kevin Jordan under Mudbugs Hockey

Let’s see here, the Bugs win the title for the best team in the regular season and then lose in the playoffs, The Sabres win the title for the best team in the regular season and lose in the playoffs, that was a tough thing to go through for sure. Broken hearts all around.

It’s a tough thing to forget what could have been and all the reasons why it did not forever and ever or we can accept the fact that it is a sport and someone has to win and someone has to lose, otherwise what’s the use?

But time to move on and that’s exactly what Mr. Madden has done. He put his boot down or maybe even up a certain body part. But hats off to him to take charge that way, a way that has proven once again the man is driven to succeed and passionate about the team and the fans. We are spoiled to have such terrific ownership. I fully trust Mr. Madden will do everything in his power to uphold his promise of moving forward with a higher expectation of excellence.

I also feel the proposed hiring of Steve Cherowonak as the teams new GM is a very smart choice, like i have always said ” If your going to replace someone , replace them with someone even better, or what’s the use” I look forward to meeting the man face to face instead of through e-mails.

As for the Sabres it’s always difficult to see fan favorites and players of Briere and Drury’s talent leave, but that’s the nature of the beast and we may never know the truth as to the circumstances that caused the upheaval.

The Sabres can not and will not replace that loss, however they do still have a pleather of young talent and a coaching staff that has proven the can win games with whomever is in the lineup. So even though they lost a good portion of their team in these two guys, the still have several positives on the horizon.

Lastly, trust me when i say it was hard enough to see long time Sabre netminder Marty Biron in a Philadelphia Horse-Flyer jersey, now I have to see Danny Briere in one also. Yuck. Wait it gets worse, then Chris Drury gets signed by none other than another hated team the NY Ranger Bob’s good grief, that just adds insult to injury.

But oh well time moves on and things move forward, and as i have always said “things have a way of working out” but unfortunately we will have to wait until October to find out.
