Here we go again

Written by Kevin Jordan under Mudbugs Hockey

Here we sit once again at the bottom of the division, tied for last in the conference and the league with the Wichita Thunder who have only played 1 game to the Mudbugs 3. In my book that makes us the team with the worst record in the league. Are we the worst team in the league as well?

It said in Roy Lang’s Shreveport Times article that Scott Muscutt said and I quote ” If things continue this way for the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, head coach Scott Muscutt says he’ll have a different looking roster soon.” Why does the leader blame the troops when it’s the leaders job to lead the troops in the first place?

I left the arena tonight thinking this has got to get better soon, also I was overwhelmed by the frustration of having to suffer through a crappy ass start to the season year after year.

I was excited as much as any fan for hockey to start and was led to believe once again that this year will be different, shame on me! Hopefully preseason will be over soon.

Over It

Written by jen under Mudbugs Hockey

I’m over it. At least as over it as I’m going to get.
To say that I left CenturyTel Saturday night a little pissed off would be an understatement.
I made it to the game 30 minutes late, so I missed the ceremony honoring Wildfong. More importantly, I missed the first goal that Brassard made. That didn’t help my mood, but hey, I was at the game, it was tied and I had some great co-horts cheering beside me.
I don’t know the specifics of the game, but from what I could gather, the guys were playing some damn good hockey. Until the third.
Not sure when everything went to crap, but it did. Could the Mudbugs have won this game? Oh yeah. But they didn’t.
I’m sure the players feel like crap about the loss, so there is no reason to bash them. Some people get off on talking crap about the players, coaches or refs. It’s so much easier to see what could have been better when you’re not the one out there getting smacked against the glass or having the puck fly so close that it makes you cross eyed.
I’m still a proud Mudbugs fan and I will still be there next time screaming, cheering and spewing profanities.
The guys will learn from their mistakes. I have no doubts about it. Yes, I was pissed when I left, as were many other fans. But, I got over it. There are plenty of games left for the Bugs to prove themselves.
They just better hurry.

Because I Like It

Written by jen under Mudbugs Hockey

It’s almost here. After months and months of waiting, the Mudbugs are about to get back on the ice.

The other night I was watching a game on tv with my niece. She cheered when I cheered, but the whole concept of the game was lost on her. When she started asking me “why they did that” or “what’s that called” I could only stare at her.

I’ve never claimed to be an expert on hockey. Hell, not even close. When I told her I didn’t know she asked “why do you watch it if you don’t know anything about it.” I was stunned. It reminded me of another conversation I had with someone when I first started watching the Mudbugs. He wanted to know how I could write about a team I knew nothing about.

The first time that was asked of me I answered back “because I enjoy it.” I told the same thing to my niece. She was satisfied and we finished watching the game until her bed time.

Today, a friend was asking about the games. He wanted to know when I started watching, where it was played, how long the games last, how often they play, etc., etc. I invited him along to a game and he said he probably wouldn’t enjoy it because he knows nothing about it.

Here was my chance. I don’t feel like I have to explain myself to anyone or make excuses about anything, but I had to pass on my experience.

I told him how, when the lights go down and that music starts, your heart rate jumps. As you and all the fans around you are standing, waiting for the players to come out, you can feel the excitement, feel the energy go through your body. As the guys skate out and the crowd roars with appreciation, your whole being is alive. Chill bumps form from and you have no idea why. You don’t care that you know nothing about the game, or that your hockey IQ is limited. All you care about is that feeling. The feeling that something great is about to happen and you are right in the middle of it.

That, I told him, was reason enough to go.

I may not know exactly what is happening on the ice, why they did that play, or why that player looks like he is auditioning for “Stars On Ice.” What I do know, and what matters to me, is that this game excites me. And that, my friends, is all the reason I need.
