Everyone knew going into Thursday night’s pivotal contest with the undefeated, high scoring Colorado Eagles, that this game was going to really put the defense under its toughest test of the season thus far. And despite what may be the popular assumption, I have to say fairly well considering.
Allow me to explain how I came to this conclusion. First off, I am a firm believer in the fact that there is always 60 minutes in a game. Add that to the fact the Eagles score their 3 goals ( 2 and a fluke) very early in the contest and the Mudbugs defense held their own for the remainder of the game, speaks volumes towards my assessment.

The last time the Bossier Shreveport Mudbugs were on the ice for a game that meant something was when their season came to an end when the Texas Brahmas swept the Mudbugs 4-0 in playoffs last season, thereby sending them home with nothing to show for their amazing record breaking 2nd straight Governors Cup finish to the 2007-08 campaign.
Will this year be different then the last two? Is this team better equipped to take the extra step than they did the last 2 seasons? Well, unless you have a crystal ball or something of that nature, you’re going to have to wait and see like the rest of us.

After playing two back2back pre-season games in Southhaven against the Riverkings, Scott Muscutt has some tough decisions ahead of him. It’s time to decide which players will be on the ice for the Bugs home opener next Fri. night. Muscutt has always been very open about how hard it is for him in having to make these decisions. But this is just one task of very many he has.
The Riverkings defeated the Bugs last night by a score of 3-1. Ken Carroll & Janne Kurrika split time between the pipes. Kurrika took the loss. He made 10 saves on 12 shots. The Bugs never really got their offense going. In fact; their only goal of the night came from J.R Bria on a PP at the 8:10 mark of the 3rd period. Henrik Ivarsson & J.J Martin got the assists. The Bugs went 1-14 on the PP, while the Riverkings were 2-16.

I have been reading up alot on this strike the PHPA has called for. I didn’t want to write anything on this until I had read almost everything I could find. And what’s so odd about this; is the fact that most of the players knew nothing of this strike. I do know the players voted the union in barely at the end of last season. And from what I have read; the PHPA & the CHL started laying things out on the table in May.
As we all know; this will be the 1st time the CHL has ever had to work out a CBA. After reading one article, I know it took the ECHL about 15 months to get one into place. I know everyone is probably thinking; “Well; it’s only been about 5 months & here we are at almost the beginning of the season. So does this mean there won’t be any hockey this season or part of the season?”

Doesn’t the latest news just crap in your bowl of Wheaties? What is it actually, a Strike? or a work stoppage? the better question has to do more with the details of the let’s call it work stoppage (’cause every NHL CBA dispute has been dubbed as a work stoppage).
The details I am afraid of are what may be the very thing that may just put a damper on the start of the season, or worse the season altogether. If they are haggling over details in the first place means they are trying to work up some kind of Collective Bargaining Agreement between both sides were they will have to agree upon it for a decided period of time such as 3, 5 or 10 yrs as an example.
To iron out all the matters that go into this CBA, especially the first one a league has ever had, is going to take a fair amount of time. That fair amount of time may ( and I say may lightly) is at the expense of the fans and everyone else involved in putting on each and every game.
The only way I see this going away by the time the season begins about 2 weeks from tonight is if the union packs their bags and leaves. Other than that I don’t see either side just laying down on this and I am afraid It’s been my experience that these kind of things get ugly before they get better.
I sure hope I am completely wrong on this and will be just as happy as the rest all the Mudbugs Fans, but I something tells me to hunker down and get used to the couch watching the NHL instead.
