Zip it and Move On

Written by Kevin Jordan under Mudbugs Hockey

First of all, finally a game like Friday night’s crash, bang, boom, and I had to miss it. But nevertheless, I saw enough video to make my hair stand on end. I did, however, wish I could have been there *&^%#@, but I was reminded family comes first.

I will get back to that in a moment. Let me begin by saying I have felt the team needed an emotional “stick up for each other” type game. The Rays provided that. The team also needed a good win with plenty of scoring with a lopsided deficit.  They were able to accomplish that also.  Most important, they escaped the ruckus with no major injuries and the much need win.

The Waiting Room

Written by Kevin Jordan under Mudbugs Hockey

How much do we need to know as hockey fans to enjoy the sport anyhow? Do we need to know all the rules to enjoy the game?  My feeling  is that  you don’t need to know everything, but some things about the game once you  learn can open up a whole new world of enjoyment within the game itself.

But then again knowing more about the game has it’s demands and frustrations that come with that knowledge. Then what happens is we as fans try to seek out answers to our questions we get doors slammed in our face, given the company line or worse yet the old political say a lot  – say nothing crap thing.

Ok! What Now?

Written by Kevin Jordan under Mudbugs Hockey

Did I just waste my time writing anything good about this team? Alright Thursday night I was ok with the 1-0 win against Wichita. Hell the way we have been playing latley we will take any win. But then to follow it up with a “why even bother going” showing the next night in Texas it just adds an insulting overtone to whatever they had accomplished the night before.

The only difference between Texas and Bossier Shreveport is what’s between the ears of every one in the Mudbugs locker room. Is the student a better Coach than the Coach he learned from?  If that is the case shame on Scotty for letting it happen. I say who gives a crap. Stop playing so tentative and take the game to them for a change. We have been doing that very thing too much of late with every other team. I say Damn the torpedoes and make them stop us! We have the speed the defense, the goaltending, what the hell are we holding back for? andalay! andalay!

There has never been a system thought up where there hasn’t been shrapnel, you just have to play to your team strengths, and our team strength is our offense which can average 3 to 4 goals a game. Then I am sure between our defense and goaltending we can on most nights keep the goals against under 3 which should translate into alot more wins. There’s no perfect plan but this sure sounds alot more exciting to me and alot more like the beginning of the season when we were winning on a consistent basis.

Ok! What Now? Well I think if we stop playing the theme park carousel with the players ( I know some are really hurt) and start to gain some some stability in the locker room might help. Because I know as a fan that if I am frustrated having to look at the gamesheet every game to find who is playing and is and who is not playing every game, you can be sure it must be even more for every player in that locker room. Trust and stability is key. These guys need to learn each others habits and earn each trust, that can’t be done when the players are always changing. The team needs stability. Once it finds that it will find its chemistry, then it will have its identity.

Then and only then will it be a solid rock of clay that other teams will have very hard time breaking apart. This needs to be started soon because it is not an overnight transition. Let’s go Bugs.

Same book – New cover?

Written by Kevin Jordan under Mudbugs Hockey

We have all heard the old line “you can’t, shouldn’t or don’t, Judge a book by its cover”.  In this case “they” are correct. Are the Mudbugs the same old Mudbugs in a brand new cover, sorta speak?

I compared the Mudbugs first 17 game starts of this season along with the ’06-07 and ’07-08 Governors’ Cup seasons during that same time period. I found some things to be a little interesting.

2006-2007 – The Mudbugs finished the season with 94 points earning them the right to the Governors’ Cup as the top team in the regular season. They fell to the RiverKings in 4 games to 1 in the Conference Semi Finals.  The first 17 games of this season was less than mediocre at 7-5-4.
