The Bossier Shreveport Mudbugs shot down the Eagles with a 3-1 win. The Colorado Eagles now find themselves in a place they really didn’t expect to be. That would be on the brink of elimination. In all fairness, nobody else expected them to be there either. But they are, and that’s their problem.
Things we as fans did and did not know before the drop of the puck to begin game three. We all knew the Mudbugs came from behind to win game one 4-3 in overtime. Then comeback the next night to win game two by the same 4-3 score.
What we did not know, how well the team was going to be greeted onto the ice. The fans cheered their team at every turn, in ways I haven’t heard in quite sometime. The place was electrically charged with positive ions for their boys. Every single player in a white sweater appreciated and fed off the energy. Continue Reading »

The Colorado Eagles came into this series ridiculously dominate on paper, they had all the stats on their side. Everyone, everyone who will admit that is, never would have thought the Bossier Shreveport Mudbugs were going drive away from Loveland, Colorado with a 2-0 series lead.
How ironic is it that the final scores in both games ended up as 4-3 victories, not only that, but the game winners were both scored by a guy named Joe. Joe Blaznek scored the game winner in game one, and Joe Ori scored tonight’s game winner in regulation time.
In fact the trio of Joe Blaznek, Joe Ori and Brett Smith combined for 9 total points with a goal and 2 assists each. Since we already have a “CLicK” line consisting of Travis Clayton, Shawn Limpright and Jeff Kryzakos. I thought I would crown tonight’s top trio as the “BOS” line (Boss Line). Continue Reading »

The Mudbugs scored three straight in the 3rd period within a matter of 3 minutes to tie the match. Then it took just :42 into the overtime period for Joe Blaznek to put away the game winner. The Mudbugs now hold a 1-0 lead in the best of 7 semi-final series with a long way to go.
The Mudbugs were buzzing around Colorado Eagles net all night, but just couldn’t slip one past netminder Andrew Penner. The Eagles got on the board right away with a first period goal by Jim Jackson at 2:14 of the opening period. Shots after one were led by the Mudbugs 14-6. That’s a lot of shots, but the only good shots are the ones that go in.
Colorado scored two more times in the second frame, putting the Mudbugs in an even deeper hole. At 5:34 of the period, Riley Nelson put his team up 2-0 on the powerplay. They then it made 3-0 with just over 6 minutes left in the period with a goal by Ed McGrane. Shots after two periods favored the Mudbugs 26-17. Continue Reading »

If one was to just look at the statistics between the two clubs, they would read like the Mudbugs are going up against a good AHL team. Just by the numbers alone speaks of get out the brooms now. However, I do not believe it will turn out that way.
There is more than meets the eye when it comes to the playoffs. I am not saying the Mudbugs can’t overcome the offensive powerhouse in the Colorado Eagles. I am saying they won’t be able to do so over a 7 games series.
First things first, the Mudbugs must earn at least a split in Colorado and then go from there. Ironically, the Eagles have been one of the top teams on home ice while the Mudbugs were one the best away from home ice. Which team will bend and which team will crack? Continue Reading »

The Texas Brahmas sent the Bossier Shreveport Mudbugs back across the border with a loss to end the 2009-10 regular season. With the post season already structured, was it just like any other season game or was it a pond hockey pickup game?
You can always count on one thing, meaningless or not, the players still want to win. It’s their competitive nature. I am sure they can’t wait to get to the most competitive part of any season. The Playoffs. Everyone loves this time of year.
It took a mere :24 for the Brahmas to score their first of the game on a goal by Matt Pierce. They went ahead by a 2-0 score at 16:27 of the period with a goal by Grant Jacobsen while on the powerplay. Continue Reading »

It was a classic night to remember, the present Mudbugs shutting the door on the Mavericks 5-0. The Lighting of the lights for Cancer awareness, which was very well done as well as very moving.
Last but not least, we were honored with a look back to the past years played out through eyes of the man that literally bled the teal and purple every game he played. The retirement of the #33 jersey worn by former Mudbug legend Jim Sprott was exciting and a pleasure to be a part of.
Between the video highlights of his career and the cracking voice of the man himself during his speech, how could anyone who enjoyed watching #33 play over his career as an integral part of what is Mudbugs hockey, not be overwhelmed with emotions themselves.

Travis Clayton scored to tie the game late in the 2nd, and David Rutherford scored the game winner in the shootout. John DeCaro stopped 19 of 20 shots. Despite giving up the early 2nd period goal to the Oilers, he was perfect. Capped off by turning aside all Tulsa attempts in the shootout for his 23rd win.
Tulsa goalie Marty Magers kicked out 39 of 40 Mudbug shots in regulation, making several quick reflex saves. Despite having already been eliminated from the postseason, the Oilers put in a hard fought effort.
After a very uneventful scoreless first 20 minutes, in which each team put up dismal numbers on the shot clock, Tulsa outshot the Mudbugs 7-4.

The Mudbugs closed out their season series against the Mississippi RiverKings with a bang. Just the kind of a win the fans wanted to see, just the kind of a win the team needed in preparation for the playoffs.
The Mudbugs with the win clinched the 3rd seed in the Northern Conference playoff race. Thanks to a huge night by forward Shawn Limpright, with his biggest game of the season. He converted on two goals and pitched in on two assists as well. The very productive line of Limpright, Travis Clayton (1a) and Jeff Kryzakos (1g, 2a) combined for a whopping 7 pts. As the “CLK” line goes, so does the Mudbugs offense.
Despite the productive individual numbers, the team as unit played very well in all aspects of the game. Tonight the Bossier Shreveport Mudbugs looked like a playoff team for the first time in a good while. Especially on home ice, where they have unusually struggled all season. They have already proven themselves as one of the best in the league in points earned on the road.

The Bossier Shreveport Mudbugs, by defeating the Corpus Christi IceRays, now need just one win to clinch 3rd place in the Northern Conference playoff race. The team earned their 35th win and 74 point of the season with just 4 games remaining.
Last season the Mudbugs finished with a record of 39-19-6 for 84pts. They finished 4th place overall in the Northern Conference and were forced to play in the opening round. I don’t think they want to put themselves in that position again.
The Bugs have a five point cushion over the 4th place Mississippi RiverKings after the two points they earned today. The win was crucial in distancing themselves with a Tuesday night matchup with the same RiverKings. The Mudbugs can clinch the 3rd seed that night with a win.
