Americans boil the Bugs 5-1

20032_1201312593461_1247961251_30608878_1669604_n The Bossier Shreveport Mudbugs remain winless in three tries against the Allen Americans so far this season.  Forward Justin Bowers assisted on all five Allen goals, while goalie Chris Whitley stopped 33 of 34 shots.

David Rutherford was the lone Mudbug scorer early in the contest with his 4th goal of the season and 6th point in his last 4 games.  The helpers went to Clay Plume and Scott Kalinchuk at 6:37 of the opening period.

The Americans Jordie Benn tied the contest at 9:31,  just :02 after Mudbugs Simon Mangos stepped out of the box to join the play. Although technically not a powerplay goal,  it played out that way just the same.

The Americans took the 2-1 lead with just under eight minutes to play in the period on a goal by Bruce Graham. The period would end with Allen outshooting Bossier Shreveport 12-8.

The Americans then increased the score to 3-1 at 14:50 of the 2nd period by Christian Gaudet. Then while on the powerplay, the Americans went up by a 4-1 score on a goal by Nino Musitelli with less than five minutes left to play in the period. Shots on goal in that period favored the Mudbugs 21-8, and 29-20 over 40 minutes.

Christian Gaudet with his 2nd of the game, closed out the scoring at 12:14 of the final period.  The Americans eventually skated away with their 27th win and 57th point in the Southern Conference standings. The Mudbugs fall to 20-14-4 and 44 pts. in the standings, just 2 points ahead of the Mississippi RiverKings as they defeated the Missouri Mavericks 5-1.

The Mudbugs will now comeback to home to enjoy 5 straight home games,  beginning with the Texas Brahmas on Tuesday night at 7:05pm. Season series between the clubs is tied at 2-2.
