Mudbugs buzz the Bees 6-3
The Bossier Shreveport Mudbugs scored 4 unanswered goals, which included a penalty shot marker on their way to their 4th straight win on home ice. Four players finished with multiple points, three on the Mudbugs side and one on the Killer Bees side of the stat sheet.
If you came to game looking for great goaltending, then you came to the wrong game. Neither Mudbugs John DeCaro or Killer Bee Andy Franck were at their best. However, after a rough start, DeCaro finished strong enough to earn his 13th win of the season.
But, if you came to the game looking for offense, you were greeted with 6-goal horns and 3- oh! @&^%$’s. It was a tight, fast paced game for both clubs, that had it’s moment of drama as the teams went back and forth matching each others success on the scoresheet.
All that would end as the turning point in the game came at 19:51 of the period when Shawn Limpright was brought down on the breakaway. The referee pointed to center ice, and we had ourselves one of the most exciting aspects of the game to witness, a penalty shot. Click here for video of the goal.
Limpright grabbed the puck at center ice, skated in on Killer Bee netminder Andy Franck and fired the lightning wrister into the netting as the crowd went wild. It was a thing of beauty, and just the boost the Bugs and their fans needed.
Scoring a goal late in a period is always good for a teams confidence heading into the locker room. But when the goal is scored in that fashion, it becomes undoubtedly back breaking for the other club. That’s exactly what happened on this night as the Mudbugs stormed out in the 3rd, still reeling with energy and confidence created by the gametying, penalty shot goal.
Let’s go back to the beginning of the game, shall we? The Mudbugs opened the scoring at 3:03 of the first as Jeff Kryzakos wristed his 10th of the season from Travis Clayton for the early 1-0 lead.
Then at 6:32 of the period, Killer Bees Joel Irving and Stacey Bauman would scored just 1:01 apart to lift their to a quick 2-1 lead. Then with just under four minutes to play in the first, Mudbugs Mark Johnson fired a “Blew by You” past Andy Franck to tie the game once again. The goal was his 7th from Justin Aikins and Simon Mangos. Shots on goal favored the Bugs 11-10.
The two teams traded goals in the second frame. Rio Grande’s Sean Muncy scored the go ahead goal at 1:13 of the period while on the powerplay. The Mudbugs tied the game once again with just over a minute left in the period as Shawn Limpright added his 10th of the season with the fore-mentioned penalty shot goal. The second period closed with the score tied at 3-3, with the Mudbugs outshooting the Bees 25-17 over 40 minutes of play.
The Mudbugs put the game away in the 3rd with Jeff Kryzakos scoring his second of the game and 11th on the season from Shawn Limpright and Travis Clayton just :59 into the period. The CLK line strikes again.
Then at 9:40 of the period David Rutherford, who as of late has been hotter than the “ Pants on the Ground” song, fired home his 6th of the season and 8th point in his last 6 games. Mark Johnson picked up the lone assist.
Why not add one more to make it an even “Six Pack? At 10:29 of the period Scott Kalinchuk fired the puck from the top of the circle straight into the webbing behind the dismayed goalie for his 2nd of the season. He was assisted by David Rutherford and Jeff Kryzakos. The Mudbugs now have outscored the Killers Bees 13-3 over thier last two meetings.
The Mudbugs will play thier 3rd of a 5 game homestand as they will play host to the Colorado Eagles at 7:05 sharp.

I absolutely loved the game blog. It was a great read. I laughed my butt off at the part of Rutherford being hotter than the song; “Pants on the Ground”. And the “Blew By You” goal on Andy Franck was hilarious also. Thanks for a great after game blog. It’s very nice for those of us that weren’t able to make it to the game. You da man; Sabr.
